This series is one of the best to read with teenage grandchildren. This is a spinoff from the Ranger Apprentice series—a young adult adventure series about a group of misfits in Skandia, who by default end up working together during the annual brotherband training held for the latest group of boys turning sixteen. Hal never knew his father. Forced to compete in tests of endurance and strength, he discovers that he’s not the only outcast in this land of seafaring marauders. Hal becomes the leader and the group learns to work together on the strangely-designed ship he built. This sets this group of young sailors on a series of adventure that challenge their problem-solving, fighting, and sailing skills.
