This includes Oran, crown prince of Dalriada, whose intended bride exactly resembles her portrait, although her cruelty upon arrival proves she is nothing like the sensitive woman of the letters he has received through their correspondence. Blackthorn and Grim must use their wits to help the prince solve his dilemma.

Like all her books, each story is self-contained, and the characters begin new adventures in the next books: Tower of Thorns and Den of Wolves.
