Author : Lisa Wingate
Genre : Historical Fiction
It’s amazing how many stories in America have waited so long to be told because they don’t line up with the national historical timeline. Lisa Wingate’s historical fiction is based on the real-life scandal perpetuated for decades (from the early thirties until 1950) by Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, who kidnapped and sold approximately 500,000 poor children to wealthy families across the country. Children were stolen at birth with the doctor informing the young mother that her baby had died, or kidnapped while young. Thousands of birth families would never know what became of their children. While Mrs. Murphy and her home in the story are fictional, Rill’s experiences there were inspired by those reported by survivors. This story connects generations, oftentimes Lisa’s trademark.
