Every so often I choose a fantasy series to read. Robert Jordan’s sprawling saga, The Wheel of Time series takes a reader through fourteen books, beginning with The Eye of the World. Rand, a sheepherder, his friends Mat and Perrin, a blacksmith’s apprentice are chased by the Dark One’s minions out of the Two Rivers area where they’ve lived . In the company of Moiraine, an Aes Sendai, from the highest council and her companion, Lan, a Warder, and two young women, they escape, become separated, and eventually transformed in unexpected ways as they seek the Eye of the World. Reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings, there are tangent stories with these characters and others who aid them along the way.
